Integrated Comms: Why is change so hard for small business owners?

May 2024

Sometimes, Reader, you have to pivot...

Being a small business owner is hard. Being a mom is hard. Being a small business owner who’s also a mom. Yea. So freaking hard. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve had to pivot, adjust my plans or reschedule meetings because something came up with one of my kids. Love them, but, man. Their timing isn’t the greatest, right?

Take last week for example, I had a working meeting scheduled with a freelancer friend who is helping me (spoiler alert) revamp this newsletter and give it some new life. And of course, her kids have an unexpected e-learning day. What are the odds, right? She texts and says, “We’ll have two additional workers today, but come on.” My response? “Girl, we are working moms. That’s what happens.”

Because it does. And it’s not just kids. It’s business, too, but sometimes we’re too afraid — or is it stuck? — to make a change.

Therefore in the immortal words of Ross Geller, it’s time to “PIVOT.”

Next month this newsletter is going to look and feel different — more me, if you will. Excited? You should be. I know I am.

But first. If you know a small business owner, coworker, friend or, heck, even an acquaintance who struggles with one of the following challenges, would you do me a favor and forward this email to them and ask them to sign up?

  • Time
  • Doing everything on your own
  • Having to figure everything out on your own
  • Social media
  • Growing your business
  • Knowing when to scale, when to hire, when to hire out and even how to hire out.
  • Marketing yourself, business or product
  • What public relations even means
  • How to choose freelancers
  • How to set pricing
  • How to set your budget and determine priorities

And be ready. Because we’re gonna tackle these small business challenges. So be on the lookout for the June issue….it might even contain a little free something for you. But you won’t get it if you don’t read it ;-)

PS-Do you have a small-business challenge that has been wearing you down? Hit reply and email me. We can commiserate together.

April 2025 Yea. I said it. Perfection ≠ a good business owner. Trust me. I spent way too long chasing that before I finally said to hell with it and got to work on just doing the dang thing. Last year, my business wasn’t perfect. It was an absolute struggle, and I was stressing over everything all day every day, even losing my mind if I didn’t complete my task list. Needless to say, it wasn’t helping anything. Perfection is an ideal that doesn’t exist. We’ve made it up and we hold ourselves...

February 2025 Being a business owner is hard, let’s not make it harder than it should be. There are simple ways we can promote our businesses and ourselves. So let’s get into the 5 I want to talk about today. Set up a coffee meeting I said this last month, and I’m going to say it again — and again and again. Use 👏 your 👏 network 👏 to build growth within your business. Consider this a challenge to reach out to and set up one coffee meeting with a reporter or a fellow business owner or someone...

January 2025 2025 is here. Not sad to see 2024 end, to be honest. It was so hard in so many ways, and I spent entirely too many hours trying to figure out what’s next for NPatel Communications. Finally got my act together in Q4, and I’m already seeing the fruits of that labor (and I do mean labor!). No new clients — yet — but we’ll get there. But that’s enough about me. Let’s talk about how you can set yourself up for business success this year. ’Cause 2025 is going to be our year! It has to...
