Simple steps to success in 2025

January 2025

2025 is here. Not sad to see 2024 end, to be honest. It was so hard in so many ways, and I spent entirely too many hours trying to figure out what’s next for NPatel Communications. Finally got my act together in Q4, and I’m already seeing the fruits of that labor (and I do mean labor!). No new clients — yet — but we’ll get there.

But that’s enough about me. Let’s talk about how you can set yourself up for business success this year. ’Cause 2025 is going to be our year! It has to be. Along those lines, I’m dropping 4 easy-to-implement ways to help your business see success in 2025.

Build Your Network (and drink a lot of coffee)

Your network is your key to success. And if it’s not, expand your network.

  • Take a look at who you know (friends, acquaintances, former colleagues, friends of friends) and make a list of 10 people you can reach out to in Q1. Schedule a coffee (or a happy hour champagne pour). Chat about what you’re doing, what they’re doing. See if there’s a place y’all could work together. It’s literally impossible to know if there’s an opportunity to collaborate out there if no one knows what you’re doing (or selling, for that matter).
  • Find a small business networking group to join or, hell, start one on your own. Why freaking not?! I did this last year and it was incredible how much it helped me shape my business.

Revisit what you’re saying about your business or product(s)

In short, this is your brand. But let’s simplify it.

  • Take a deep, hard — and honest — look at what you’re putting out there.
  • Ask yourself: Do I like this? Is this reflective of my work? Does this showcase my experience? Does this actually describe my product? Am I consistent at all?
  • I’m talking about your website, social media, brochures, business cards, advertisements, blogs, even your own dang LinkedIn profile. Go at it all with a red pen. Literally. Print it out and lay it out in front of you and start making notes.

You’re an expert. Tell other people that.

The PR industry calls this Thought Leadership; call it whatever you want, the goal is for you to be seen as the expert in your field.

  • By positioning yourself as the expert in your industry, you will start to gain visibility and credibility for your business and product.
  • Examples of ways you can do this include: publishing a regular blog on your website, creating content on social media, writing articles for trade magazines.
  • If the thought of those terrify you, then start small and look at local, community events where you can showcase your business or products. Can you speak at a local Chamber meeting? Does your downtown organization have a networking breakfast where local businesses get time to showcase their work. Google (and your network) is your friend here.

Celebrate your freaking wins

No matter how big or small, you better be celebrating your successes. I ain’t even playin’.

April 2025 Yea. I said it. Perfection ≠ a good business owner. Trust me. I spent way too long chasing that before I finally said to hell with it and got to work on just doing the dang thing. Last year, my business wasn’t perfect. It was an absolute struggle, and I was stressing over everything all day every day, even losing my mind if I didn’t complete my task list. Needless to say, it wasn’t helping anything. Perfection is an ideal that doesn’t exist. We’ve made it up and we hold ourselves...

February 2025 Being a business owner is hard, let’s not make it harder than it should be. There are simple ways we can promote our businesses and ourselves. So let’s get into the 5 I want to talk about today. Set up a coffee meeting I said this last month, and I’m going to say it again — and again and again. Use 👏 your 👏 network 👏 to build growth within your business. Consider this a challenge to reach out to and set up one coffee meeting with a reporter or a fellow business owner or someone...

December 2024 Guys, 2024 has been a hard year. So hard. Professionally it’s been crazy hard for small businesses across the country (mine included), and, personally, it’s been hard juggling all the things that come with being a wife, mom and business owner. However, with challenges comes opportunity, right? That’s what I keep telling myself anyway. My goal with this newsletter is to build a strong community of small businesses who support each other. So, in full transparency, here are 4...
